Advances in the prevention and treatment of bronchiolitis of infancy
Bronchiolitis of infancy is the commonest single cause of hospitalisation of babies in developed countries. Globally, Human Respiratory Syncytial Virus "RSV" is the most common killer of children in their first year of life and causes substantial morbidity and mortality in frail elderly and immunocompromised people of all ages. Despite the virus being discovered in 1956, effective safe vaccines that reduce the impact of RSV disease have only recently come to market and therapeutic interventions remain limited.
